Reed and Jedrzejek Reign Over PPG Vibrance Collection MSA Fete

Westlake, Ohio…In the first seven seasons only two car owners, Steven Stout and David May
ever sat at the head table at a Midwest Supermodified Association banquet. That exclusive club
just got a little bigger with the crowning of Craig Reed and driver Tim Jedrzejek as champions for
2008.
The title was Jedrzejek’s fourth as a driver, but his first for car owner Reed. The team rattled off
five wins on their way to the podium but that ride wasn’t without its trials. “It was a roller coaster
season,” said Jedrzejek. “About midway through the year we were third in points and we
decided to go out and just win races. That mentality paid off for us,” the champion noted.
Reed thanked his crew, family and his two drivers, Jedrzejek and Bob Dawson for such a great
season. Jedrzejek was equally gracious. “After my accident (in 2005), I never imagined I’d race a
supermodified again. To be able to stand in victory lane with my wife and kids is a gift beyond
belief.”
MSA President Kevin Jaycox announced the 2009 schedule and more importantly noted that
PPG Vibrance Collection will be back as a title sponsor in 2009. “We are sincerely thankful for
their support and are proud to be part of the PPG racing family,” Jaycox said.
Midwest late model racing legend Tim Ice was named series rookie of the year. Jaycox noted,
“He may be the only driver to be rookie of the year who already had a series named after him. To
that Ice replied, “Wow, I haven’t won this award since 1977!”
In the most poignant moment of the evening Jaycox explained the creation of the Terry Gibson
Memorial Determination Award in honor of the scrappy owner-driver who lost his life at Toledo
Speedway this past summer. Fittingly, the inaugural award went to independent owner-driver
Jack Smith.
Earlier in the evening MSA said goodbye to two employees, Pat Booth and Bobby Hayduk.
Booth was the safety director and gave three decades to supermodified racing with his work in
the pits and infield. Hayduk, the MSA flagman leaves to assume the director role of the Buckeye
Super Sprint series.
Other awards went to Todd Ridgeway (Media Member of the Year), Jon Henes (Hard Luck Award)
Rhonda Burch, Nancy Henes, Lori May, Sharon Jaycox and Ronda Jedrzejek (Women of the
Year), Bob Dawson (Most Improved Driver), Randy Burch (Best Appearing Car), May Motorsports
and ACME Racing (Crews of the Year), Steve Stout (Mechanic of the Year), Craig Reed (Bill
Kovacs Car Owner of the Year), Randy and Rhonda Burch (MSA Support Award), Randy Burch
and Jack Smith (Sportsman of the Year) and Charlie Schultz (Ralph Jaycox MSA Achievement
Award).
