OSWEGO, NY (February 13) - The Oswego Speedway and Gater Racing News are teaming up to
give away three rides in the 2-seat Supermodified. The announcement was made by Joe Patrick of
Gater Racing News, and Oswego Speedway 2-seat Supermodified Coordinator, Roy Sova. Patrick
said, “The 2-seat Supermodified ride is the closest most people will ever get to taking a competitive
lap in a real race car, and Gater Racing News is excited to be working with the Oswego Speedway
to provide fans this opportunity.”
The first ride, according to Sova, will be given away through a registration at the Oswego
Speedway booth during the Motorsports Expo at the New York State Fairgrounds March 10 and
11. “All you have to do is stop by the Oswego Speedway booth and fill out an entry blank,” said
Sova. “The drawing of the winner’s name will be done Sunday afternoon, March 11, and will be
announced before the end of the Motorsports Expo.”
The 2-seat Supermodified has been a mainstay at the Oswego Speedway for the past two racing
seasons. During its first two years nearly 350 people have taken a ride in the car. People have
come from all over New York State, but also from as far away as California, Texas, Colorado,
Florida and Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada to take a ride. “So far we have had people come from 22
states and three Canadian provinces to take a ride in the 2-seat Super,” said Sova. For some of
them, like the family of five from Texas, they had never even seen a Supermodified in person before
coming to the Oswego Speedway for a ride.
Karen Graham, from Weatherford, TX, said she heard about the ride from Davey Hamilton when her
family took a ride in the IRL 2-seat car. “Davey told us if we wanted to experience a real ride in a
real race car we had to go to the Oswego Speedway and take a ride in the 2-seat Supermodified,”
said Graham. She, her husband and their three sons, came to the track for their rides in July of last
year. “Davey was right,” said Karen, “this is the real deal. We are so happy we did this!”
Keith Gilliam, who does all the maintenance and most of the driving of the 2-seat Supermodified,
said the car is going to be even better for the 2012 season. “It’s in my shop right now,” said
Gilliam. “I’m stripping it down, we’re changing the rear brakes from inboard to outboard, re-doing
the cooling system, just going through the whole thing. The engine is going to Finger Lakes
Machine and Doug Holmes is going to freshen that for us.” Gilliam said “we hope to have it done
and on display at the Motorsports Expo.”
“How we give away the other two rides is pretty much up in the air right now,” said Patrick. “We’re
pretty sure one of them will be given away through a web based contest for subscribers at
gaternews.com. We’re still working on ideas on how to give the third ride away.” Patrick said
“gaternews.com is where a lot of people are getting their race information first hand. You don’t
have to wait for the paper to come out, you can just go online and find racing articles, video
highlights, race schedules, classified ads, Gater columnists, racing blogs, and so much more.”
“Visit the Oswego Speedway booth at Motorsports Expo March 10 and 11 to register to win a ride
in the 2-seat Supermodified,” said Sova, “and read Gater Racing News or go to gaternews.com to
find out how to win the other two rides being given away.”
The 2012 racing season at Oswego Speedway begins May 5th. Events run May through
September on most Saturday nights, culminating with the Fall Championship 75 on September
15th.
The annual Speedway open practice is scheduled for April 28th.
