Oswego Speedway will be attracting the young race fan in 2011
from the Oswego Speedway
For the 2011 racing season the Oswego Speedway is reaching out to the young race fan in several
different ways. New Oswego Speedway owners Eric and John Torrese have announced that all
children 16 years of age and younger, when accompanied by a parent, will get free admission to
the races. The only exceptions are for Race of Champions Weekend, The Sprint Cup/Indy event,
and Classic Weekend.
John Torrese said, “It’s important to get young people interested in racing so we can keep growing
the sport. To do that, we are offering parents the opportunity to bring their children to the races for
free.” Children 16 and under must be accompanied by a parent to take advantage of the free
admission. “This wll allow for an affordable night outing so families can be together to have
bonding. It worked for our family time.
The Oswego Speedway is also going to rejuvenate the Kids on Track program for the 2011
season. Small Block Supermodified driver Timmy Barbeau, who is a first grade teacher at Fitzhugh
Park Elementary School in Oswego, will be working with Lisa Sova to get the program back in
shape. Barbeau said he sees first hand every day how excited kids get about racing. “Every
Monday,” said Barbeau, “my kids want to know how I did Saturday night. Some of them even want
me to describe the race lap by lap.”
Sova said, “we’re just in the process of getting this going again. Tim and I have some exciting
ideas that we’ll be implementing in 2011. One thing for sure, the Oswego Speedway mascot Red
the Eagle will be back at the track this year.” Red the Eagle will also be making appearances in
parades this summer, and could be flying in to some schools to meet the kids and hand out
goodies.
Youngsters will also be playing a role in opening ceremonies each week at the Oswego Speedway.
For one thing, said Barbeau, “We are going to have an elementary school class lead the crowd in
the ‘Pledge of Allegiance’ every race night that school is in session. We are inviting any class, any
school, grades one through four, to participate. Plus, we are going to be contacting area high
schools to have their marching bands perform ‘The National Anthem’,” said Barbeau. If you would
like your school to be involved, call the Oswego Speedway at 315-342-0646.
